Visa & Residence Permit

Incoming Erasmus+ students are responsible for checking the entry, visa and residence requirements applicable to their nationality and planned mobility period in Türkiye.

Visa requirements may differ according to nationality and duration of stay. Students who are required to obtain a residence permit will receive procedural guidance from the Erasmus+ Institutional Coordination Office after arrival.

Incoming Erasmus+ students should determine whether a visa is required before travelling to Türkiye.

VISA EXEMPTION

Students Who May Not Require a Visa

Citizens of countries with a visa exemption agreement with Türkiye may not need a visa for certain short-term stays.

Visa exemptions vary according to nationality and permitted duration of stay. Students should verify the conditions applicable to their own nationality before travelling.

Students Who Require a Visa

Students who are required to obtain a visa must apply for the appropriate student visa at the nearest Turkish Embassy or Consulate in their home country before travelling.

A Letter of Acceptance issued by Sivas Cumhuriyet University may be used as a supporting document during the visa application process.

Visa exemption, visa validity and permitted duration of stay are not the same for every nationality. Students should not make travel arrangements solely on the basis of another participant’s visa experience.

AFTER ARRIVAL

Residence Permit

Erasmus+ students whose planned stay exceeds their applicable visa-free period or visa validity are required to complete the residence permit procedure in Türkiye.

RESIDENCE PROCEDURE

Start the application process as early as possible

The residence permit application must be completed within three months of arrival. Students are strongly advised to begin the procedure as soon as possible in order to avoid administrative difficulties.

APPLICATION PROCESS

How the Residence Permit Procedure Works

Online Application

Complete the residence permit application through the official e-Residence system of the Directorate General of Migration Management.

Prepare Documents

Print the application form and prepare the required supporting documents.

Submit to SCU

Submit the residence permit application documents to the Erasmus+ Institutional Coordination Office.

Document Check

The Office checks the application file and forwards the required documentation to the relevant authorities.

Fingerprint Procedure

Students are subsequently informed about the required fingerprint procedure at the Migration Management Office.

DOCUMENT CHECKLIST

Required Residence Permit Documents

Students should prepare the following documents for the residence permit procedure.

Residence Permit Application Form

Completed online and printed after submitting the e-Residence application.

Passport

Original passport and copies of the identification page and applicable entry stamp / visa pages.

Biometric Photographs

Two recent biometric photographs in accordance with ICAO standards and with a white background.

Student Certificate

Student certificate issued by Sivas Cumhuriyet University confirming active student status.

Health Insurance

Health insurance valid in Türkiye for the required period and suitable for the residence permit application.

Proof of Financial Means

Bank statement, sponsor documentation or another form of financial evidence where requested.

Residence Permit Card Fee Receipt

Receipt showing payment of the applicable residence permit card fee.

Address Declaration

Rental contract, dormitory confirmation or another official document demonstrating the student’s address.

HEALTH INSURANCE

Insurance must be suitable for the residence permit procedure

Students should ensure that their health insurance satisfies the requirements applicable to the residence permit procedure in Türkiye and covers the required period.

Residence Permit Systems

Use only the official online services of the Directorate General of Migration Management for residence permit applications and application-status enquiries.

Erasmus+ Institutional Coordination Office

The Office provides guidance throughout the residence permit procedure, checks the documents submitted by incoming students and acts as an institutional contact point during the process.

Students should follow the instructions communicated by the Office and submit documents within the requested periods.
