About

What is the International Staff Week?

International Staff Week is an event that brings together staff members from different universities, colleges and institutions from around the world to share knowledge, experiences and best practices. It is one of the most important internationalisation activities of Sivas Cumhuriyet University.

The International Staff Week provides an excellent opportunity for participants to network with colleagues from different parts of the world, learn about new cultures, gain a fresh perspective on their work and experience teaching or training in a foreign context.

During the event, there are workshops, seminars and presentations focusing on different topics related to higher education, such as internationalisation, intercultural communication and student mobility. The programme also includes cultural and social events, city tours, museum visits and dinners.

Professional Development

Participants learn about new approaches and best practices in higher education through workshops, seminars and exchanges with colleagues.

Networking

The event creates opportunities to establish professional contacts and develop future collaborations between institutions.

Cultural Exchange

Participants experience the local culture, traditions and cuisine of Sivas while developing a greater appreciation for cultural diversity.

Institutional Development

Participants bring back new ideas, insights and good practices to their home institutions.

Mission

The mission of the International Staff Week organised by Sivas Cumhuriyet University is to foster a collaborative and supportive environment for international university staff to exchange best practices, share knowledge and experiences, and develop new ideas and strategies for enhancing the quality of higher education.

Our vision is to become a leading platform for international collaboration among university staff from around the world and to create a vibrant community of professionals committed to advancing higher education through shared expertise, insights and partnerships.

Programme

The programme includes opening and closing ceremonies, seminars, cultural visits, teaching/training activities and an excursion.

Day 1

12 May 2025, Monday

Opening Ceremony, Campus and City Orientation

09.00 – 10.00

Opening Ceremony at 4 Eylül Culture Center, registration, introductory video, opening speech by Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet ŞENGÖNÜL, University & City Presentation by Lect. Emre SEVEN and photo session.

10.00 – 10.30

Visit to the University History Museum and Natural History Museum.

10.30 – 11.00

Visit to Kangal Dog Research Center.

11.00 – 11.20

Tour at Hasbahçe Lake and MiniaSivas.

12.00 – 13.30

Lunch with traditional flavours from Sivas and Turkish cuisine.

13.30 – 14.30

Tour at Hamidiye Park and visit to The War Horses Museum.

14.45 – 16.30

City orientation in the historic city square including Buruciye Madrasa, Şifaiye Madrasa, Double Minaret Madrasa, Kale Mosque and Sivas Ulu Mosque.

Intercultural Communication Seminar by Lect. Emre SEVEN.

13.30 – 16.00

Receiving Erasmus grants at the Vakıfbank unit located on campus.

Day 3

14 May 2025, Wednesday

Teaching and Training Activities

09.00 – 17.00

Teaching and training activities at the departments. Participants carry out their academic work at relevant units.

Day 4

15 May 2025, Thursday

Excursion to Gürün Gökpınar Lake

08.00 – 18.00

Excursion to Gürün Gökpınar Lake. The lake is known for its crystal-clear water, natural beauty and trout production. A free lunch featuring fresh-caught trout from the lake is planned for participants.

Day 5

16 May 2025, Friday

Closing Ceremony

10.00 – 12.00

Closing Ceremony at the International Relations Office, Turkish tea and coffee, participant reflections, evaluation, certification ceremony and photo session.

Transportation

A shuttle bus service has been arranged for participants’ convenience.

Shuttle Service

The shuttle service will be available on 11 May 2025 to transport participants from the airport to the gathering point in the city centre. Throughout the event, from 12 to 16 May 2025, the shuttle bus will also be available each morning to transport participants from the pick-up point to the International Relations Office.

Airport to City Centre

Participants who cannot make it to Sivas on Sunday, 11 May 2025, can use the airport bus service to get to the city centre. HAVAŞ buses and Municipality buses are available for flights.

Culture

Sivas Cuisine

Meat, cereals and dairy products are important in Sivas cuisine. Winter preparations and local herbs, especially madımak, have a significant place in the culinary culture of the city.

Sivas Köfte

A registered local flavour of the city, prepared traditionally with minced meat and salt.

Peskütan Soup

A regional soup prepared with pescutan yoghurt, cracked wheat and green lentils.

Madımak

A famous local herb used in many traditional dishes of Sivas.

Divriği Pilaf

A historic rice pilaf associated with the culinary traditions of Divriği.

Katmer

A registered traditional flaky pastry of Sivas, often consumed at breakfast and tea times.

Kazan Simidi

A traditional bagel baked in stone ovens after being boiled in molasses water.
